An employee dressed as the Chuck E. Cheese mascot mouse was arrested on Wednesday in Tallahassee, Florida, for allegedly using a stolen credit card, according to police.
The incident began when a woman reported unauthorized charges on her child support Visa debit card, which she believed had gone missing during a visit to the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in late June. The card was later used at several businesses, including a smoke shop, grocery store, and a Whataburger.
The woman visited the grocery store where the card had been used and reviewed surveillance footage. She recognized the individual as someone she had seen at Chuck E. Cheese. She then contacted the police with her findings.
Officers arrived at the restaurant and initially located the suspect, who was not wearing the mascot mouse costume at the time. One officer described the suspect as appearing “very nervous” with a tense posture and wide eyes. When the officers returned a short time later, the man had put on the full Chuck E. Cheese costume, including the large rodent headpiece.
An officer asked a coworker if the suspect was currently in the mascot mouse suit, and the employee confirmed with a nod.
Bystander photos captured the moment police removed the mask and placed it on a Tallahassee Police Department vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
