A Connecticut-based flight attendant has gone viral after sharing images of a disturbing scene left behind by a passenger on a recent flight — toenail clippings scattered on the aircraft carpet.
Leanna Coy, a flight attendant who frequently posts about in-flight etiquette on TikTok, posted the photo with a warning for viewers sensitive to graphic content. In the caption, she wrote, “Those are toenails,” and explained that a passenger had clipped them mid-flight, leaving the remnants for cleaning staff to handle after landing.
“This should be illegal,” Coy said, expressing disbelief over the incident. The video, set to the now-infamous Jet2 Holidays jingle popular on TikTok, quickly garnered reactions from disgusted viewers.
The act of personal grooming in public spaces, particularly on airplanes, has become a growing concern for flight crews and frequent travelers. Toenail clippings, often regarded as unsanitary and disrespectful in shared environments, have been increasingly reported by airline staff as part of a troubling trend.
Online commenters were quick to condemn the behavior. One viewer suggested the offender be added to a “no-fly list,” while another called for jail time. “The poor people sitting next to them,” one person wrote, highlighting concern for nearby passengers.
This is not the first time Coy has called out passenger behavior. In previous posts, she has criticized actions such as excessive seat swapping and ordering decaffeinated coffee mid-flight. However, she described finding toenail clippings on the floor as one of the worst offenses she has seen.
Coy did not identify the individual responsible, simply confirming, “Wasn’t me!” when asked.
