Luggage giant Samsonite recently launched one of its suitcases, the Proxis Global Carry-on Spinner, to a jaw-dropping 130,000 feet to test its durability. The Samsonite suitcase, currently retailing for $425, not only survived the journey but made a dramatic return to Earth, with the entire feat captured on video.
After being catapulted skyward, the Samsonite suitcase endured extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -85°F, before descending back to Earth with the help of a self-deploying parachute system, as reported by Travel + Leisure. In the video, viewers can see the resilient suitcase landing wheels-first, proving its toughness.
This impressive feat was carried out with Sent Into Space, a marketing agency known for sending various products into the stratosphere. The company claims the Samsonite suitcase is the lightest and toughest they’ve ever made, thanks to its Roxkin material—a recyclable, multi-layered, and highly responsive shell that provides an ideal weight-to-strength ratio.
Throughout its 130,000-foot journey, three times the cruising altitude of a commercial plane, the Samsonite suitcase demonstrated remarkable resilience, landing in perfect shape. After such extreme testing, Samsonite claims that no journey is too far or too challenging for their Proxis series.
